Why I Chose the Buffalo Bills - An Englishman's Perspective

We all know when following a new sport is difficult, especially when you’re not from that specific

country. You have no family influences, no heartbreaks and a complete clean slate… It beckons, who

should I support?

Here’s why I chose to become a member of the Bills Mafia…

Let’s start from the beginning on how I became hooked on the NFL. After watching countless games

on a Sunday afternoon and seeing the whole spectacle that the NFL is, I only felt it was right to

pledge my allegiance to one team. It’s hard when you have the pick of the bunch but, if I can share

some of my thoughts behind choosing my team I hope it will help others to get started on the

glorious road to American Football.

My decision was based on the following:

- I want to follow a team that has never won a SuperBowl

Although my beloved Bills came close on four occasions during 1991-1994, they never got the job done

on the biggest stage of them all. With a new era underway for The Bills and with a gunslinger like QB Josh

Allen at the helm, I’m hoping this famous duck will be broken one day!

- Who has the most passionate fans?

Now, this one is obviously up for debate as all NFL fans will say they have the most passionate fans,

but, seeing the Buffalo fans turn up every week in arctic conditions regardless of whether they win or

lose is testament to the Bills Mafia. Being a West Ham fan and knowing the passion that we have for

our beloved football club, I see that exact same passion with Buffalo fans. Not to mention they jump

through flaming tables when they tailgate... Crazy? Yes! But that young wrestling fan in me smiles when I see things like that.

- What kind of weather do you want to see your team play in?

I wanted to see snow games as often as I could because these are undoubtedly the hardest

conditions to play football in. With a quick Google search, the following was found out (and I

quote) “This was a runaway. No NFL city puts its players and fans in more challenging weather than

Buffalo”. Buffalo averages 19 to 20 days of measurable snow each NFL season… SOLD.

- The ONLY team in New York...

Did you know, The Bills are the only TRUE New York football team of today’s modern era with

The Giants and The Jets both playing their home games in New Jersey.

- Buffalo Chicken Wings

Need I say more on this? Come on... chicken wings! You gotta love Buffalo!

These are just a few things that I came up with and was personal to me when choosing a team. I

hope that this might spur some ideas in anyone looking to nail there colours to the mast and choose

your own NFL team.
